train your mind
We’re running the first-ever ClimbWell Reading Group starting February 2022
Join us!
Do you ever wonder…
What are my climbing weaknesses and strengths?
How should I separate climbing practice from performance?
Is it possible to gain willpower and to learn to try harder?
What are the cognitive skills used by advanced climbers,
and how can I cultivate them? How can I develop better intuition as a climber?
What are effective ways to train climbing movement and technique?
How can I set more effective climbing goals?
What are some practical ways to manage fear and
improve my concentration and focus on the rock?
These questions all point to mental climbing skills, which have a huge impact on our climbing performance and enjoyment. Despite that inevitable impact, these skills are (very) often skipped...
At ClimbWell, we’re interested in changing that. We believe that through coaching, mindfulness, and deliberate practice, climbers can develop mental skills that transform how they think and move, on and off the rock. That’s why we’re leading a reading group focused on Eric Hörst’s groundbreaking book, Maximum Climbing.
How it works
We’re taking a fresh approach to the classic book group. Each week we’ll read 1 or 2 chapters from Eric Hörst’s Maximum Climbing, the most comprehensive book about mental training for climbing. Then we’ll meet weekly on Zoom to discuss the content and how to apply it to our lives. Each discussion will be facilitated by a ClimbWell coach - Blake, Gaby, or Remy - to help you get the most from the text and turn insight into action.

Why should I join?
Maximum Climbing is a great text, but few climbers have read it. Why? Well, to be fair, it’s a big undertaking….
The topic covered is so vast that you could spend months focusing on applying and integrating what you learn in a single chapter. While you can read Maximum Climbing on your own, the best way to engage with a book like this is through a community and a structured process.
The ClimbWell Reading Group is part book study part coaching group, which means you’ll get a lot more from the experience than you would by reading the text on your own:
Meeting weekly creates a structure to support your reading and self-study.
Facilitated group meetings ensure high-quality discussion and collaborative learning.
Group coaching means you get support applying what you learn. After each meeting, you’ll share your top takeaways and actionable next steps.
Reading with expert facilitators deepens your understanding and integration of core topics.
You’ll make new friends who share your interest in mental training for climbing and personal development.

We think $10 per 90-minute group session is a steal. Think about it like a yoga class for your mind.

Why not join with your climbing partner? This can help you better integrate the tools and insights you learn..
Why charge for a book group? The ClimbWell Reading Group is a group learning experience, meaning you’ll be learning alongside our team rather than being taught by us. But by charging a fee to join this group, we ensure buy-in and a great experience for everyone who participates. The cost of participating also pays our facilitators a small sum to prepare discussions questions and send reminder emails.
We promise you’ll get even more value than your financial investment. If you want to join us and paying is out of the question, get in touch and we’ll work something out.
Registration closes February 14
Who’s leading this?
ClimbWell is a community dedicated to creating safe, engaging spaces for climbers to learn and grow as people and athletes.
What started as a conversation between Blake Cason, Gaby Colletta, and Remy Franklin is now an annual climbing retreat that includes clinics and workshops that help climbers deepen self-awareness, learn new skills, and break barriers - on and off the rock. Explore our website to learn more about our mission and to meet the team.
